Global Fund urged to continue supporting health workforce strengthening

Rachel Cohen of the Lesotho MSF wrote in the Mail & Guardian, Africa online newspaper, urging the Global Fund to keep their support for health systems strengthening esp. in the case of health workforce costs. Using the case of Lesotho, the World third highest in HIV positive prevalence, she demonstrates how important it is to invest in health workers in order to achieve the three diseases' treatment goals. According to Cohen, "a major initiative will need to be developed at the national level to recruit, train and retain skilled nurses and other professional healthcare workers. According to the nurses we work with, a critical first step to retain nurses and attract new ones is salary increases."
